How to Fit a Road Bike to Yourself – 6 Steps Need to Follow

Step 1: Level and Center the Seat

The most important thing is to level the seat. Then, it is necessary to check that whether the seat is in the center or not. When anyone at first seat and feel discomfort, that means the seat is not in the center, or there is any other problem. The only goal is to seat on the level. You need to stat fir by the placing of the bicycle on the level surface and checking that the seat is in a level. The best way to check it is by placing a carpenter’s level on the seat. 

If you do not have this, then you can do it by placing a yardstick on the seat top and then by comparing the edge to a horizontal straight line. At the time of adjusting, make sure that the seat has been centered in the rails over the seat post. One of the reasons, you need to level your seat efficiently because it supports the weight of the whole body and this is what makes the movement easier.

Step 2: Adjust Seat Height

It is difficult for the beginner to adjust the seat height. It is not only difficult for the beginners but also difficult for anyone. Anyone needs the help of a friend or a trainer or a person who can help to adjust the seat. To identify seat height, it is necessary to place heels on the pedals and pedal backward. People need to try again and again to identify the option. When anyone finds the option, it is mandatory to mark it with a marker. The simplest way of adjusting the seat is by taking it on a trainer or the doorways of your house. This step requires the help of your spouse or friend. For finding the right height place the heel of your feet on the pedal and try to pedal backward. In this way, you will find your optimum seat height when the legs are extended at the bottom of the pedal stroke with the heel on the pedal.

Step 3: Adjust the Shoe Cleats

People think that they wear the shoe cleats and that is enough. The first and necessary thing is to the soles which are in the cleats need to be positioned correctly. The cleat of the road bike should be positioned in such a way that the balls of the feet rest over the center of the pedal at the time of pedaling. 

The balls of the feet form a protrusion on the inside of the shoe, and this should rest tightly on the axis if it is not then the cleats need to be adjusted. If the cleats are not adjusted in the right way, then you might end up hurting your knees. So, align the cleats with an unreal or I say the imaginary line that bisects the sole because this offers a safe starting position.

Step 4: Find Aft/Fore Seat Position

This is the adjustment that requires a helper as well. You need to place the bike on a leveled surface next to either a post or a wall so that you can hold yourself upright. You need to put on the biker’s clothes for this and pedal in reverse until and unless you are finding your sweet spot. The aft/fore seat adjustment is right when the plumb line is hanging from the kneecap of your feet, and it touches the back end of the crank arm. You need to note that, your height is more than six feet and you ride a long distance you need to have 1 to 2 cm behind the crank arm end.

Step 5: Check the Handlebar Height

The right changing of the height of the handlebar requires a deep knowledge or the parts of the bike. This is why; we are recommending you to use the tips only to gauge the adjustment. If you find out that you need a change, then you can get the pats from a shop and install those the way you want.

The first and the most important bar-height check is the comfort. If you feel sore after or during the rides especially on the lower back or neck, then you need to adjust the bars. For riding on the road, a difference of 1 to 4 inches is optimal; even if the distance is a bit more then you are a flexible racer. 

For the off-road riding, the height of the bar should either be equal or up to 2 inches below the height of the seat. Keep in mind that, these steps work for most of the people, but some people need a slight change of the optimum height for the most comfortable position.

Step 6: Check the handlebar reach
